The Twelfth Hour

DESCRIPTION

The Twelfth Hour is a horror card game that pits two survivors against two monsters. Survivors try to repair a broken car by obtaining three special cards while the monsters compete against each other to kill the most survivors. Players and monsters alternate turns playing cards from separate decks to try to complete their objectives. There are, however, two catches to the game: Survivors share control of 5 characters they must work to keep alive, and the survivors must close their eyes while the monsters take their turn. We did this in order to meet our experience goals, one of which was to make our players feel the paranoia and fear of a horror film.

The game was developed by a team of 3 in a week in a summer game design program at USC. We were given three criteria for our game: it had to be a horror game, cooperative, and card based. I designed the card mechanics, writing the contents of all of the cards, and my two teammates worked on the game's art. The rule book can be found here.
